So Chet and I decided that since Rebekah is going to be in fourth grade ( I will pause for the where does the time go comments) it was time to allow her to stay up later. I have always put the kids to bed at the same time. All of them went to bed at 7. This allowed them to be out of our hair and give Chet and I time alone every night. We love our time together. However, Rebekah complains that she is the only kid who has to go to bed so early (after all the sun is still up). So we decided that the time has come for her to stay up until 9. We moved the little ones bedtimes to 8. While getting them to bed is easier because they are tired at bedtime it has really cut into my time. I have to monitor what we watch together (not many kid friendly shows on after 8) and Chet and I don't have that quiet time to just relax together. I guess the day had to come someday, I just didn't realize 8 1/2 years ago that it would come so soon.

Man that is a bummer, that is one thing I think about sometimes when Nathan and I are hanging out together--I think "Man we have kids, this will never be the same" it is a good thing but sometimes you want "me time"
I am just glad I know I can wait 8 more years to extend her bedtime. :-)
You gave in too fast!...lol
Kaylin has been saying the same thing to us. "i'm the only one who goes to bed at 7:30." Until we found out that the other kids are lying and they do go to bed earlier than they say. James and I have been discussing this for a while because we also don't want it to interfere with our own hang out time. We've decided we're not giving it up. I figure, if we extend her bedtime now, how much later is it going to get as they progress through middle school and high school.
We did tell her that she can stay up and read or play in her room a bit later, but then she wakes up super tired for school.
Parenting is definitely getting more difficult though. Holy Hormones!!!! She's outta control (as i'm sure you've noticed with bekah)
I totally hear you Beckie. Girls are so emotional. Unfortunately, I have talked to the other moms and Bekah is the only one going to bed so early. It has been fun this week getting to spend time with just her but the minute she doesn't get up on time she has to go back to her old time. We also told her that her bed time is going to stay at 9:00 at least through 8th grade and when she is in 9th grade we would talk about it. Trying to cover our basis.
